Common questions

Why BYOK instead of a managed plan?

Because your call volume, your provider choices, and your privacy posture are yours to control. When you bring your own API keys, you get OpenAI or Anthropic's published rates — no markup, no stacked fees, no mystery invoices. You also keep all your existing tier discounts and usage history. We decided early that charging a per-minute toll on every call your AI agent makes is a bad deal for users. BYOK eliminates that entirely.

What if I don't have an OpenAI key?

Getting one takes about two minutes at platform.openai.com. TakeCallOS walks you through the setup. You can start on OpenAI's free tier credits — the app will prompt you when it's time to add billing. Anthropic and ElevenLabs work the same way. Most users are up and answering calls within 10 minutes of installing the app.

Do I need a separate phone number?

No. TakeCallOS pairs with your existing iPhone and routes calls through it — your real number, not a virtual cloud number. Callers see your actual phone number in their caller ID. There's no Twilio account, no SIP gateway, no number rental fee. Your iPhone is the endpoint.

What happens to my call data?

Nothing leaves your Mac except the audio sent to your chosen AI provider (same audio any call app sends). Your API keys are stored locally in your macOS Keychain. Call recordings and transcripts stay on-device unless you explicitly export them. We don't have a server that receives your calls, your keys, or your recordings — the call is your Mac's business, not ours.

Is there a refund policy?

Yes. If TakeCallOS doesn't work for you within 14 days of purchase, email us and we'll refund in full. No hoops. This is early access software — we'd rather give you your money back than have a frustrated user.

Will I need to pay again for updates?

Not for the current version year. The $29 early access price covers all updates through the current major release. We haven't locked in a long-term pricing structure yet — we'll be transparent when that changes. Early access buyers always get the best deal we offer.
